Pumps
Pumps are among the most vital equipment in various industries and household applications. Their main function is to transfer and move fluids (liquids or gases) from one point to another. These devices use mechanical energy to guide the fluid along a desired path at the appropriate pressure. Pumps are manufactured in various types:
Centrifugal Pump
The centrifugal pump is one of the most widely used pump types across various industries, used to transfer low-viscosity fluids such as water, chemicals, and other liquids. The operating principle of this pump is based on centrifugal force; mechanical energy from the motor is transferred to the impeller, and with its rotation, the fluid is thrown outward and exits through the discharge port at the specified pressure.
Classification of Centrifugal Pumps by Flow Type:
- Radial flow pumps
- Axial flow pumps
- Mixed flow pumps
Positive Displacement Pumps
Positive Displacement Pumps are equipment that transfer a specific volume of fluid in each cycle and deliver it to the outlet at a specified pressure. Unlike centrifugal pumps which operate based on centrifugal force, these pumps take a specific volume of fluid directly from the inlet and push it out of the pump, regardless of system pressure.
Classification of Positive Displacement Pumps:
- Reciprocating or alternating pumps
- Gear or rotary pumps
